Knights to the fore !!!

Posted by Franz (Baden, Austria) on 22 February 2018 in Architecture and Portfolio.

The ornate and elaborate metal framings of these dormer windows on the roof of the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris resemble knights in full armour ready to advance. A suitable ornament for this military complex, I think!

They remind me young birds which wait for the beakful the wide open beak (especially the first one)

@Gérard: I like the comparison with baby birds!

Rick from Toronto, Canada

Very suitable, as is the monochrome and tight framing. A beautiful ornate craftsmanship that puts the vast majority of contemporary buildings to shame.

22 Feb 2018 2:57pm

@Rick: I don't think there are too many craftsmen around today who could execute this kind of metal work!

What beautiful architectural detail that envelop these dormer windows!! Had you not said they were metal, I would have thought they were concrete and would have been amazed that they are still intact and in great shape. Great capture!

22 Feb 2018 6:59pm

@Steven: Thanks, Steven! Unfortunately, there aren't many craftsmen today who could do this kind of metal work!
