some pictures from a week of skiing in the dolomites, february 2013 (12)
the road across passo gardena/grödner joch (2,130 m / 7,000 ft) has to be constantly maintained in winter, and it is often closed after heavy snowfall.
on our day trip to bozen/bolzano, we could not use in the morning, but by late afternoon it was open again, with snowploughs and snowblowers constantly at work ...
thank you for your visits, comments and advice! they're very much appreciated!

@Phil Morris: thanks, phil! i guess the "mountains" of saskatchewan make heavy equipment like this unnecessary ... ;-)
@Ainsley: yes, in the winter months they are quite busy, the poor men! as to the commercial environment, there is of course some development along the road and on the pass, mainly inns and ski lifts, but there is LOTS of nature left ...
@Marilla: thanks, mari! yes, it's nice when you've come for the skiing ... ;-)
@Judy aka L@dybug: "heavy" equipment indeed !!!
@Rick: thanks, sir! and yet, the road is closed quite frequently due to snowfall ...
@Maria: not to worry, maria ... by july, the snow will be limited to the odd patch on the mountains, but all the roads will be cleared and there will be wonderful summer flowers everywhere !!!
@Japanalia: very true ! where would we be without them ?!?
