christmas rose and snow

Posted by
Franz (Baden, Austria) on 21 January 2012 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

this white christmas rose is blooming outside my kitchen window, with heather (erica) on both sides. when snow finally arrived last week, everything looked as it should ... after all, the german name of the flower is "schneerose" or "snow rose" ...
(in the meantime, temperatures are above freezing again, the snow has disappeared, and it's raining ...)

I did not know you had flowers among the snow. Must be a wonderful sight. Very beautiful image. I find the vignetting effective.

Mariana M. from Waterloo, Canada

beautiful . how sad to see these beautiful flowers knowing they would be dry soon under this cold weather !

21 Jan 2012 12:53pm

@Mariana M.: fortunately, this is not the case! these are real and true winter flowers, that bloom in nature (in wooded areas) from around christmas - hence the name - to the beginning of spring! this picture of last march shows one that i have in my garden. as soon as the weather allows it, i will move the one in today's picture from the window flower box and plant it in my garden, too. happy birthday once again!!

Don't they bloom, these flowers!!!! It takes them the whole winter to show off flower after flower! I think I'm going to buy myself one such pot as they can be kept outside, on the balcony.Nice capture with the snow partly covering them. (We had a little snow for one day only....until now!)
