"before winter says good-bye for good" (13 of 15)
"wiener neustädter kanal" is an artificial waterway between vienna and wiener neustadt, some 60km to the south. it passes by the place where i live, and the bike path along the canal offers great opportunities for walking, jogging and cycling - less so in winter, of course. the canal was built at the beginning of the 19th century and was meant to eventually reach the port of triest (italian: trieste; slovenian: trst). only 63 km were ever built, however, before the railways made it obsolete. it was used for transportation until before world war one.
